The Taylor K-1766 test kit is a liquid, drop-based kit designed to accurately measure the sodium chloride (salt) concentration in pools and spas with salt water chlorine generators. It provides more precise readings than test strips and uses an argentometric titration method to produce a clear color change.
How it works:
- A water sample is added to the provided graduated cylinder.
- A chromate indicator (R-0630) is added, which turns the water sample yellow.
- Silver nitrate reagent (R-0718) is added drop-by-drop until the sample changes color from yellow to a milky reddish-brown.
- The number of drops of silver nitrate is counted and multiplied by 200 to determine the salt level in parts per million (ppm).
Kit components:
The K-1766 kit comes in a waterproof, hard-shell case and includes:
- R-0630 Chromate Indicator Reagent (0.75 oz)
- R-0718 Silver Nitrate Reagent (0.75 oz)
- A 25 mL graduated sample tube with a cap
Key features:
- Highly accurate: Provides precise salt level readings, which is critical for proper salt water chlorinator function.
- Convenient and fast: The drop-based titration method is easy to perform and provides results in a few seconds.
- Trusted brand: Taylor Technologies has a long history of producing high-quality and reliable water testing equipment.
- Durable case: The kit is housed in a heavy-duty, waterproof case, ensuring the integrity of the reagents and equipment.
Importance of testing:
- Optimal chlorinator performance: A salt water chlorine generator requires a specific range of salt levels to produce chlorine efficiently. The K-1766 allows you to regularly check this balance.
- Prevents equipment damage: Operating a salt system with salt levels that are too low or too high can cause damage to the chlorine generator cell over time.
- Ensures proper sanitation: Maintaining the correct salt level is essential for the system to sanitize the water effectively.
